The Jimi James Fraser Sextet is a Vancouver-based jazz ensemble led by pianist and composer Jimi James Fraser. Founded in 2019, the group blends original compositions with inventive takes on the hard bop tradition, drawing inspiration from Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Vancouver’s VEJI. The Sextet features Tamas Balai (alto saxophone), Spencer Drody (trumpet), Conor Lum (tenor saxophone), Brad Pearson (bass), and Arvind Ramdas (drums). Known for high-energy, immersive performances, the ensemble balances tradition with forward-thinking collaboration and continues to elevate British Columbia jazz across Canada.

With deep roots in the blues and soul combined with a rock driven edge, The Mojo Stars have been collecting a large following in BC and beyond, starting from their debut performance at one of the closing nights of Vancouver’s 2006 Jazz Festival, to their festival dates for 2025. In 2017, the band released their second CD, Under The Influence, which debuted in the top ten of the Roots Music Reports’ Top 50 Blues Rock Albums, and in the top 20 Canadian releases. With rave reviews from a variety of international critics, the band has continued playing a series of high profile shows, splitting the bill with acts like Curtis Salgado, Monkey Junk, Jerry Doucette, Mississippi legend, Super Chikan, and many more. Lucas Dubovik is an award-winning Canadian saxophonist and composer whose work reflects a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz. Known for his expressive tone and dynamic compositional approach, he has performed at major festivals and collaborated with artists including Caity Gyorgy, Jacob Wutzke, and Ira Coleman. His albums Quarterlife (2024) and Bridges to Nowhere (2021) highlight his evolving artistry. For this performance, he is joined by David Caballero - bass, Nicholas Bracewell - drums, and Max Huberdeau - piano.

After an extended hiatus due to a vocal injury, Steve Maddock makes his return to Frankie's for an evening of music fittingly called "The Comeback!" Steve is delighted to be joined by good friends Miles Black (piano), Bill Coon (guitar), Darren Radtke (bass), and Kristian Braathen (drums), all of whom played a role in fostering his return to the bandstand.

Saxophonist Steve Kaldestad puts together a fantastic quartet featuring pianist Tilden Webb, bassist Conrad Good, and John Lee drums. He welcomes trumpeter Thomas Marriott to join the band. Marriott is a Pacific Northwest treasure. Stereophile Magazine says “Marriott is living proof that not all the best trumpeters in America live in New York” and the Seattle PI boasts “A trumpet player whose music can fit into any decade, he is both historically traditional and in the moment.” Steve has called Vancouver home since 2008 after long stints living and performing in London (UK) and Montreal. He has recorded four CDs for the Cellar Music label, the most recent being “Live at Frankie’s Jazz Club". Steve is a full-time faculty member at Capilano University in North Vancouver.

Bruno Hubert is one of Canada’s most lyrical and expressive Jazz pianists, with a deep sense of swing, lush harmonies, and beguiling melodic lines. His conception, while highly original and utterly genuine, is evocative of, at once, Erroll Garner, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and other luminaries of jazz. While he is careful to stress that he is not a composer, he nevertheless presents a cornucopia of medley-like arrangements of jazz standards, soul, rock and pop influenced pieces, often in a lively night club environment. Mr. Hubert has been quietly underpinning the Vancouver jazz scene for over twenty years now and while he has a number of recordings under his own name, he is also a key associate of other top jazz musicians such as Juno Award winner Brad Turner (Trumpet), Juno nominated vocalists Jaclyn Guillou and Denzal Sinclaire, Seamus Blake and others. Earlier in his career he collaborated with such musical luminaries as Gino Vannelli, and Nora Jones. With James Megar - bass and Joe Poole - drums

Arvind Ramdas is a jazz drummer and composer, and a graduate of Capilano University, currently based in Vancouver, Canada. He has quickly established himself as one of the city’s most in-demand and consistently busy drummers.For this performance, Ramdas is joined by longtime collaborator and JUNO Award–nominated composer and pianist Noah Franche Nolan, alongside David Caballero, a standout and formidable bassist who has been a trusted companion on the bandstand for years. Together, the trio presents a hard-hitting, swinging program of piano trio arrangements drawn from the music of Bud Powell, Ahmad Jamal, and Cedar Walton—three artists whose work has profoundly shaped Ramdas’s rhythmic concept, melodic sensibility, and driving approach behind the drums. Audiences can expect thrilling arrangements, deep swing, and high-energy trio interplay throughout the evening.

Saxophonist Jacob Chung returns to Frankie's! Chung moved from Toronto to New York City in 2022 to study with Vincent Herring, whose advocacy for Jacob’s musical potential led to a record deal for Jacob’s sophomore album The Sage (2024) with the Cellar Music Group label. Featuring both Herring and drummer Joe Farnsworth, The Sage was named one of the best Canadian jazz releases of 2024 (Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen). In 2025, Jacob released Live at Frankie’s Jazz Club, which was recorded live in Vancouver with the Tyler Henderson Trio with whom he returns for this engagement. Brandon Suarez is one of the up and coming tenor saxophonists in NYC today. Originally from Cuba and having grown up in Miami, his style is influenced by Cuban music as well as bebop. 'Introducing' is Brandon's debut album. It was recorded at Van Gelder Studios alongside NY young jazz lions Tyler Henderson on piano, Caleb Tobocman on bass and Jacob Smith on drums. “The honey-voiced vocalist,” as the Toronto Sun describes her, Gergana (Gair-GAH-nah) is a Bulgarian–Canadian jazz singer and composer who has inspired audiences across the U.S., Europe, and Canada, including New York, Boston and Los Angeles. Gergana has shared the stage with Grammy and Juno award-winning musicians. She has recorded seven solo albums, critically acclaimed on international jazz charts, with her seventh album set for release in 2026 on Canada’s premier jazz label, Cellar Live Music Group. Equally at home in Jazz, Bossa Nova, art song, and musical theatre, she captivates audiences with her warm and energetic stage presence, uplifting lyrics, and soulful performances, bringing originality and sophistication to every show. A respected music educator, conductor, and vocal coach, Gergana holds a Master of Music in Classical and Jazz Voice Performance from Boston’s Longy School of Music, serves on the faculty of the Vancouver Symphony (VSO) School of Music, and conducts the West Vancouver Heritage Choir and B Sharp Vocal Ensemble. CD release for Mike Rud’s latest album, “The Paranormal Adventures of Uncle Mike” Mike is a Juno award-winning jazz guitarist and songwriter. As an instrumentalist, Mike has played alongside some of the greatest jazz musicians of the era like Peter Bernstein, Kenny Wheeler, Herb Ellis and Joey DeFrancesco. As a songwriter and arranger, Mike won the 2014 Juno Award for his album Notes on Montreal He has a master’s degree from McGill, and studied privately in New York City with one of the fathers of modern jazz guitar, Jim Hall. In a career spanning over three decades, New York City based saxophonist Michael Blake has created an impressive body of work in the field of contemporary music. As a leader he has fifteen albums to his name. His original music embraces sonic dimensions that both embrace and reach beyond the traditional structures that define the art form of jazz. Throughout the 1990’s Michael was a member of the New York band John Lurie and The Lounge Lizards. Most recently he was featured performing in Lurie’s 2022-2024 HBO show Painting with John. B he also played sax on the Nickelodeon children’s TV series The Backyardigans and the film version of Get Shorty. As a sideman, Michael has played a seminal role in the bands of guitarist Charlie Hunter, bassist Ben Allison and trumpeter Steven Bernstein. A constant force on the New York music scene, Blake’s music has brought him widespread critical acclaim. On both the tenor and soprano saxophones, Michael continues to refine and develop a personal style that is immediately identifiable. His most recent projects include Blake & Brass XL and Chroma Nova, a group with Brazilian percussion and strings. In 2023 Blake, along with his older brother, launched P&M Records. Their debut release was Chroma Nova’s Dance of the Mystic Bliss which earned them Best Album of the Month and #3 Jazz Album of the year in The Guardian. With Chris Gestrin on Hammond organ and Joe Poole on drums
